Over 30 Parliamentarians Condemn Trump’s Plans for War on Venezuela

More than 30 parliamentarians have condemned Donald Trump’s apparent plans for war on Venezuela, following the announcement by Trump’s US Secretary of War of a new military operation, Southern Spear, in Latin America.

The MPs and peers have signed the new No to Trump’s War on Venezuela statement.

Launched last week with initial parliamentary supporters Jeremy Corbyn MP and Richard Burgon MP – alongside the General Secretaries of the NEU, TSSA, BFAWU and GFTU trade unions as well as anti-war organisations CND and the Stop the War Coalition – the statement, initiated by the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign, has attracted broad support from across the labour, peace, and wider progressive movements.

A total of 34 MPs and Members of the House of Lords have so far backed the declaration which states “we are deeply alarmed by the growing threat of a Trump-led war on Venezuela” adding that “there are deep fears that US military intervention in Venezuela could be the first step in a wider regional escalation under Trump’s leadership.” The statement concludes saying “We reject this dangerous escalation and call on all who stand for peace to say clearly: No to Trump’s war on Venezuela.”
