Venezuela’s PSUV and Acting President Congratulate Lula on Brazil Election Victory

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, have issued statements extending their congratulations to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the people of Brazil following his victory in the country’s recent runoff election.

Official figures confirmed that the Workers’ Party (PT) candidate secured 51.79% of the vote (64,256,232 votes), defeating far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, who received 48.21% (59,826,041 votes). The result marked a significant comeback, with Lula securing ten million more votes than he obtained in the first round on October 4.

Acting President Highlights Rejection of Extremism

Speaking in Caracas during the launch of the Comprehensive Women’s Medical Specialty Service at the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez congratulated Lula and the Brazilian electorate.

“I once again congratulate President Lula da Silva and the people of Brazil because Brazil has shown that neither extremism nor fanaticism of any kind can prevail,” Rodríguez stated. She emphasized that the election results sent a message to the world and particularly to the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, describing it as a demonstration of a healthy society utilizing democratic processes.

PSUV Communiqué

In an official communiqué dated October 25, the PSUV extended its “warmest and heartfelt congratulations” to the people of Brazil on the “resounding democratic victory.”

The party specifically saluted its sister party, the Workers’ Party (Partido de los Trabajadores), along with the PCdoB and the “Brazil of Hope Federation” for their roles in consolidating the victory. The communiqué also expressed admiration for the popular movements, youth, workers, women, peasants, and Indigenous peoples who participated in the electoral process.

“The PSUV reaffirms its commitment to the struggles and aspirations of the Brazilian people, whom we will continue to support in the spirit of fraternity and respect that characterizes 21st-century Bolivarian internationalism,” the statement read.

Cabello Praises Voter Participation

During the party’s weekly press conference, PSUV Secretary-General Diosdado Cabello also addressed the Brazilian election results, praising voter participation and the use of the ballot box to determine the country’s political direction.

“We congratulate the President, of course, but we also recognize the people, who had the clarity to understand that fascism was coming and stopped it in its tracks,” Cabello stressed.

He added that recognition was due to the Brazilian people for setting an example for the world, stating that Venezuela is “very happy and proud of this great victory.” Cabello emphasized the organization and political awareness of citizens in the face of political alternatives that he characterized as threatening peace and stability in the Latin American region.

According to the PSUV leadership, the vote reaffirmed the importance of democratic participation and reflected a broader push for regional integration among progressive political forces in Latin America.
