Briefing on this Sunday’s Presidential election in Venezuela

Our briefing outlining the key issues regarding this Sunday’s Presidential election, where Nicolas Maduro – Chávez’s favoured successor – is the overwhelming favourite to defeat Henrique Capriles Radonski, a state governor with strong ties to the country’s elite and backed by a right-wing coalition of parties. Polls show a strong lead for Maduro.
However given this imminent electoral defeat, some in the right-wing opposition are calling on the wider opposition to reject the results. It is to be hoped that this does not occur and that the will of the people is respected!
